George, Mike and Brian formed the band whilst hanging in a bar over a few beers back in the early spring of '98. The original band also consisted of Joe Wilkinson, Overdose Galinos, and Sotiri Karlis on congas. Eddie joined in on the third gig, (Aug '98). Mike, Galinos, and Joe W, all split by the end of '98. Leaving the band a four piece. they then proceed to record their self-titled debut album Dec 2000. In July of 2001 Brian split and Joe Wilkinson joined back up with the boys to help them fulfill their gigging obligations and also added a few songs to the Derelicts second album the Product '05. Joe performed with them on and off until 2005, when he moved to the westcoast. Joe still sits in with the band from time to time and will be adding his talent to the Derelict's upcoming Bergenfield's Blues album, due out in the spring of 2021. In that same time period we also had a very talented Jamaican singer sitting in with us, Latoya Williams, sang with us, on and off for about 3 years, and Danny Pavas also joined for a short while in that same time frame, 2003-05. Although their time in the band was short lived, the Derelicts did feature Latoya on the second album, The Product-2005 which was compomised of 4 George/Latoya songs, 4 Joe W, songs and 2 Derelicts country instrumentals. In early winter of 2006 current singer/songwriter Scott Lauro joined the band and helped them write their next two albums, Songs From The Homestead-2008 and Whiskey & Blood-2016.
The Derelicts are currently writing and recording many new songs, these recordings will feature current and past members of the band and their songs, (Brian, Danny, Joe, George, and Mike). The plan is to release an album every year, (2021-25) for the next five years.
The Derelicts have completed an album of original songs titled (9), written by George Kapitanellis and sung by their friend and British singing legend Terry Reid. The Derelicts hooked up with Terry Reid back in 2007 and have been touring and performing with him ever since, having played almost 100 shows to date, and also recording several songs, which appear on, Whiskey & Blood and Smells Like Music 2009-George's collaborative album with Danny Pavas. The band is planning on releasing the Terry/Derelicts album sometime in the spring of 2021. George will be completing Bergenfield's Blues and hope's to have it out by late 2021.
In the fall of 2020 legendary audio technician/mastering engineer Barry Diament approached us to see if we would be inclined to create a partnership with his label Sound Keeper Recordings, to commit to creating 2 new albums of original music, one acoustic/hillbilly, the other more rock and roll. After a few very encouraging conversations we have decided to take the plunge and sign on with SKR for another musical adventure. We are very excited to be partnering with such a fantastic label.
As long as these cats can draw breath, they will continue to spread the gospel of rock to all who will listen...So buy an album and start your musical trip. Get Derelized!
